Groupe Mutuel is one the biggest insurance companies in Switzerland. Hundreds
of thousands of people trust their insurance policies to Groupe Mutuel. The
company has grown spectacularly since its creation in 1993. With over 400,000
customers, the company employs around 600 people and has some 20 agencies in
Switzerland, and a turnover of around CHF900m.
Information
Technology is fundamental to companies like Groupe Mutuel, who owe their business
to the trust of their customers. Solid, robust, stable, these are the words
that describe the IT department. No IT processes can fail, nothing can be overlooked.
Due to the quantity of users and jobs connected daily to the AS/400, it is almost
impossible to know which process is failing or how is the actual workload unless
one has the proper monitoring tool.
M.
Patrick Abbet -Systems Manager of Groupe Mutuel- uses VISUAL Control for Windows
to monitor his AS/400 every day during peak hours, and uses the automatic Snapshot
capture function to analyze performance data later. When he detects critical
performance situations on the AS/400, he just quickly glances at the Control
Panel to get all the information that he needs regarding the problem. Even if
he is working with the Control Panel minimized, or if he is out of the office,
he can still be alerted immediately to any problem thanks to the automatic alarms.
M.
Abbet also uses the Graphical Analyzer to detect performance tendencies.
"I am very interested to see the evolution of the average response times
from day to day, above all during peak hours. I also like to correlate the response
times with the system workload to see how one value affects the other",
comments M. Abbet. Of course, this information is easily visualized with Graphical
Analyzer, or by which even allows him to analyze the performance data hour by
hour. "This tool is what we have been looking for a long time not just
a real time AS/400 performance monitor, but also a tool which shows us the historical
information quickly and simply."
With
Graphical Analyzer, M. Abbet can also discover other tendencies "such
as disk usage from month to month in order to plan upgrades, or the detection
of critical jobs which consume too much CPU, so that we can assess whether they
need redesign, or rescheduling."
