Technical Overview

Real-Time Text File Processing
Applications Agent is a text file processor: it continuously reads information from files, and allows you to define processing based on that information. The main differentiator is that text files are processed in real time: the file is processed as soon as data is written by your applications.

Advanced Filtering Engine
There is usually a lot of non-useful information in log files. Just a small percentage of lines contain relevant information. But Applications Agent has an advanced, regular expression-based filtering engine that quickly discards irrelevant data from processed files.

Advanced Log File Processing
An easy-to-use interface allows you to define the file format. Both fixed-width fields and delimited field formats are supported.

Predefined File Formats for Popular Applications
Applications Agent comes with Microsoft ISA Server, Apache Web Server, SQL Server, and other popular application's log file format already defined.

Powerful Visual Script Language
Using an easy-to-use visual script language, you can always indicate how data is processed and what you want to do with this data. For instance, you can filter data out, format data with powerful string handling functions (and even define your own variables), and send custom events to the Windows Event Log.

Multi-Threaded Design for High Processing Loads
Web Servers and Data Base Servers usually produce huge log files. Applications Agent is designed to support high processing loads.

File System Monitoring
Applications Agent is also capable of monitoring standard file systems (such as Windows NTFS): creation, deletion, modification, and file size changes can be monitored in real time.

As events are processed in real time, you can automate event handling on the SmartConsole, effectively protecting your environment. When automation is not possible, the advanced notification capabilities of the SmartConsole help you escalate the problem to the appropriate owner immediately - not hours later.

Proper Statistical Analysis
By storing only the critical events and discarding all the irrelevant data, accurate analysis can be done - even from disparate applications and logs. Applications Agent helps you standardize logs from multiple sources. The advanced Reporting System can automatically generate reports and graphs in PDF or HTML formats.

Extensible
If what you need to monitor produces no log, chances are that you can produce a log by yourself. For example, you can generate a text file from many system and third-party utilities and commands. If you can do that, then you can automatically monitor it! Use these text-file producing tools in conjunction with the Windows Scheduler and Applications Agent and monitor practically anything!
