Would you like to achieve mainframe-like service
levels from your Linux systems? Do you need to monitor all your Linux
servers from a central location? How about integrating the operating health
data of all your Linux and UNIX systems in a single dashboard, together
with Windows and iSeries servers, your network and your databases?
The new VISUAL Message Center Linux and UNIX ThinAgents
help you integrate your open architecture servers in a simple, yet powerful,
enterprise IT management environment.
 |
| VISUAL Message Center incorporates new ThinAgents for
monitoring servers running Linux and UNIX operating systems. In the
enterprise views the color of the icons helps the user instantly assess
the operating health state of every infrastructure component. |
Increase availability. Consistently
reach high service levels. Solve problems automatically. VISUAL Message
Center helps you control your IT infrastructure across platforms easily
and with a fast return on investment.
New Linux ThinAgents
Monitor the performance and File System usage of your
Linux servers with VISUAL Message Center's
new Linux ThinAgents, and take full advantage of the powerful ThinkServer
monitoring engine.
These agent-less Linux monitors are executed as services,
so you do not even need to install them on the Linux systems or logical
partitions you want to monitor.
Linux ThinAgents retrieve basic Linux health data and
feed it into your VISUAL Message Center
console, including:
- File system usage
- CPU Utilization
- Jobs with abusive CPU consumption
- Number of processes
- Utilization of physical memory
- Utilization of virtual memory
- And much more
The new Linux ThinAgents can capture almost any Linux
information that can be retrieved using a command by opening a Telnet/SSH
session on the Linux system and executing the desired command. The output
is parsed and sent to the attached monitors. Subsequently, these monitors
generate events that can be sent to the VISUAL Message Center SmartConsole.

New UNIX ThinAgents
Now you can use VISUAL
Message Center to monitor the operating health of your UNIX-based
servers and network devices, proactively respond to system events and
improve the availability and performance of your whole IT infrastructure.
Choose from our range of UNIX ThinAgents those
that meet your specific requirements. We have developed specific predefined
monitors for IBM AIX and Sun Microsystems' Solaris operating systems.
For all other flavors of UNIX, our UDP Syslog ThinAgent will capture the
information you need to meet your service levels and remain in control.
New AIX ThinAgents
Extend your monitoring and business process management
power to servers running IBM's increasingly popular AIX operating system
with the latest version of VISUAL Message Center.
The new AIX agents retrieve the performance parameters you need to proactively
prevent problems and ensure availability. The following agents are included:
- CPU Usage
- File System Usage
- CPU Abuser Process
- Load Average
- General Process Information
- Processes per User
- Virtual Memory (swap)
 |
| VISUAL Message Center's AIX FileSystem ThinAgent allows
control of the use of IBM AIX file systems, consolidating its indicators
in the same console that monitors the rest of your infrastructure. |
New Sun Solaris ThinAgents
In addition to covering servers running AIX (IBM's version
of UNIX), VISUAL Message Center now also
includes new ThinAgents for servers with Sun Microsystems' Solaris operating
system. Use these ThinAgents to monitor and optimize servers with this
variant of UNIX:
- CPU Usage
- File System Usage
- CPU Abuser Process
- Load Average
- General Process Information
- Processes per User
- Virtual Memory (swap)
- Number of Processes
- Physical Memory

| The operating health of your Sun Microsystems machines
running the Solaris operating system can also be monitored using VISUAL
Message Center. The state indicators can easily be integrated into
Business Views and Enterprise Views. |
New Syslog ThinAgent
Even if your UNIX servers do not run the IBM or Sun Solaris
flavors of UNIX, you can manage your servers more efficiently and easily
using VISUAL Message Center.
Now, VISUAL Message Center
can monitor and manage any network device in your infrastructure that
supports UDP Syslog messages, as most UNIX and Linux servers do. This
is possible thanks to the new Syslog ThinAgent, which reads Syslog messages
that were sent over UDP and redirects them to the SmartConsole, so that
they can be displayed on your corporate management console.
Any problems that occur on your modems, routers, gateways,
hubs, switches and other network devices will be detected in real time
to trigger an alert or automatic action, and correct the issue.
 |
| The operating health of your Sun Microsystems machines
running the Solaris operating system can also be monitored using VISUAL
Message Center. The state indicators can easily be integrated into
Business Views and Enterprise Views. |
An easy to use Wizard simplifies
the configuration of the Syslog ThinAgent so that you can quickly get
started monitoring your UNIX servers, routers, switches or any other device
supporting UDP Syslog. The same Wizard helps you manage AIX and Sun Solaris
ThinAgents
Network devices are strategic components in the
business processes of a company. VISUAL Message
Center offers you different monitors besides the Syslog ThinAgent
to meet all your network monitoring requirements. These include:
